Having it at 9 can sometimes be ok, sometimes guests are still arriving. 10pm can be a better option as it splits up the night, More so if your function is on until 1am. Know Your Crowd - You might be the biggest party animal around, however, if most of your invites leave at 12 when your function is on til 1am it will make the end to what could be a great night seem flat.
